music video final feedback

Outline:
We intended to show a music video giving an impression of loved and lost, showing the emotion of the performer and to link the lyrics and genre with a narrative.

Genre:
Soft lighting fits very well with the genre of pop song. Cliche are used such as the couple, the bed and close ups are very conventional to this song. The p.o.v shots of the girl work very well.

Relationships:
Piano and music, slow cuts between shots. Lyrics are not illustrative but song in general is.
Easy to understand the story.
fading of boyfriend/pianist helps to illustrate 'loved and lost'
'you've got me spinning around' is illustrative, camera spins

Camerawork:
Close ups of hands on the piano:intertextual references to Elton John

Editing:
Generally good editing, fading transitions and over-laying fades look good.
Lighting soft which fits in with lyrics of song.

Mise-en-scene:
Song about 'loved and lost'-use of different shots and locations showing the couple when they were together worked well.

Special Effects:
Brightening shots fits with the airy, light sound of the song-makes it all look spacey and trancendental.

FINAL PIECE

feedback from final piece

the feedback we recieved from our video we are very pleased with.

the audience responded with the following comments:

-good range of flashbacks shots, look natural not cheesy

-well performed-lipsynching, facial expressions

-They liked the editing...good transitions used ie fading.
the effect of the vanishing piano player

-techniques used were effective-i.e hand held camera gave the impression of 'home movie'
-reflection of figure in the piano

-good comparison/contrasting shots used for sad/happy

-Good relationship with lyrics/video-i.e spinning around.

The audiences reaction from our video was that they thought about the meaning of our video. Many people thought that the guy in the video had died which was our initial intention for our video. It was pleasing how they had connected with the video in the same way we had. The audience liked the subtle hints towards his death and thought it was well handled.
